Why You Missed Your Spouse
Cindy was preparing for her date with Nate. She had been so expectant about it especially since she hadn’t seen Nate in months now. She needed to collect her dress from the dry cleaner, so she rushed out. On her way, she came across a middle-aged man, Samuel, who needed some directions to get to a shop in the area. The man was stranded, and his phone was dead. He had been searching for hours to find the place to no avail. Cindy had just about 30 minutes to prepare for her date and she didn’t want to keep Nate waiting for long. After contemplating for a few minutes, she finally declined to help the man and continued to get her dress for the date. why you missed your spouse
She got set and finally made it to the restaurant to meet Nate. She was in so much of a rush that she barely checked her phone. Meanwhile, Nate had tried calling to let her know that he’d be an hour late due to an emergency, but her phone was in silent mode. It was only when she got to the restaurant and checked her phone that she saw his calls and texts. She now had to wait around for an hour before meeting him… More on that later
Meanwhile, about 5 minutes after she left Samuel, he came across another lady, Linda, who was on her way to school for a class. He also explained his predicament and demanded help. Linda had just 15 minutes to get to class and the shop was about 10 minutes away from them. After briefly hesitating, she decided to walk him to the shop. She thought the man just needed to make a purchase, but it turned out that the shop belonged to his son, Liam, who is a successful businessman. Samuel was here to visit his son who at the time was looking for a spouse. Samuel then introduced his son to Linda, and they immediately hit it off. As time went by, they got to know each other and after 8 months they were married. The rest is history. why you missed your spouse
As for Cindy, it turns out that Nate’s so-called emergency was another lady he was seeing. His reason for meeting with Cindy was to break up with her. Words can’t explain how devastating the experience was for Cindy. She declined to help Samuel just to rush and meet a guy who didn’t value her at all. In the process, she missed out on connecting with a potential partner who could’ve been a great match. why you missed your spouse why you missed your spouse
Like Cindy, we tend to focus so much on finding a spouse that we miss opportunities that come our way. We need to practice the law of kindness and be nice and helpful to anyone we come across. Cindy declined to help Samuel because she didn’t see how beneficial it would be for her. He was clearly not a suitable partner for her, and she was focused on the date. That person who needs help may not look like a big deal or you may not see any benefit in making the sacrifice, but you never know what it could lead to. There are several stories of people who missed incredible opportunities just because they didn’t want to go out of their way to help someone in need. However, there are others like Linda, who went out of their way to do something that they didn’t have to and as a result, received a blessing that they least expected. A good example of this is in Genesis 24:15-21:
“Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milkah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor. The woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.
“The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.”
“Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.
After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.” So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful.”
In the above story, Rebecca chose to help Abraham’s servant out of her kindness. She had nothing to gain. If she had focused on what to gain, then she would’ve missed marrying Isaac. Sometimes we dismiss people just based on appearances and miss out on the very thing we’re searching for. You won’t find a spouse by actively looking for a spouse. You’ll find a spouse by being kind to others. Kindness and generosity will draw people to you and expose you to more opportunities. Focus not on yourself but on others. Let’s imagine another scenario in which Cindy eventually meets Liam, Samuel’s son since they both live in the same area. They start dating and eventually decide to get married. When Liam introduces her to his father, guess what? Samuel will recall their encounter and how she declined to help him. That alone will discourage his son from marrying her. I’m sure if you were in Samuel’s place you wouldn’t accept that either. All because Cindy failed to practice the law of kindness. why you missed your spouse why you missed your spouse
This is not to say that you should start doing fake acts of kindness for selfish reasons. A true selfless act of kindness is done without expecting anything in return. Don’t go around being kind while expecting a reward. Be kind because it’s the right thing to do and it’s how you would like to be treated.
